On September 2, 2015, seven of us went to Vesuvius to tour the Nature Camp with Director, Phillip Coulling.
We arrived in the morning and were able to tour all of the buildings in the camp, including the bunkhouses, museum, Lillian Schilling Dining Hall, library and chapel. After the tour, we had lunch in the Dining Hall.
Tour of Blue Heron Farm, Nellysford, VA
On September 15, 2015, nine of us met at 10:00 Blue Heron Farm owned by Beverly Lacey and Keith Dix in Nellysford. (http://blueheronfarm.us) They have two and a half acres of flowers, fruits and vegetables grown without chemical pesticides or commercial fertilizers. Bev describes herself as a farmer - not a florist. The farm has a flower CSA which can be subscribed to in March for approximately 20 weeks of cut flowers. It also caters to brides who want to create their own bouquets and arrangements. Bev Lacey gave us a two-hour tour, and afterwards, we had lunch at Bold Rock Cidery.
In August of 2013, Suiling and Esther planned a trip to Richmond to see the gardens. It was a beautiful day for communing with the sun and nature, birds, flowers and butterflies.
There are more than 50 acres of spectacular gardens, including a classical domed conservatory which is the only one of its kind in the mid-Atlantic. There are more than a dozen themed gardens including a Healing Garden, Fountain Garden, Asian Valley and Victorian Garden. Photos are by Becky Wilson.
